Looking for something arty to do on the Gold Coast?

The Gold Coast is home to a number of creative outlets and teachers that can help you to channel your inner artist. Below is a range of art spaces across the City where you can pursue your creative ambitions.

The Gold Coast Art School

19 Margaret Street, Southport

Since establishment in 1995, the Gold Coast Art School has taught people to paint and draw in a practical and “hands on” approach using applied demonstration and technique. The school’s method of teaching has given it a reputation as one of the leading and biggest art schools in Queensland, so you can rest assured that your burgeoning talents will be nurtured. The school offers a dependable stable of art classes for children through to adults from beginners to advanced levels.

The Gold Coast Potters Association

BENOWA CAMPUS – The Potters’ Place, corner Ashmore Road and Carrara Street, Benowa

MUDGEERABA CAMPUS – Mudgeeraba Heritage Centre, Mudgeeraba Road (opp. The Milky Way), Mudgeeraba

This organisation has been operating on the Gold Coast since it was formed by interested local craftspeople in 1977. Classes incorporate a range of techniques including wheel throwing, hand building, sculpture, electric and gas kilns and raku and pit firings for beginners to advanced levels. It’s also worth keeping an eye on their events, especially their Christmas craft market.

Artable

38 Commerce Drive, Robina

Artable’s motto is “Art for everyone” and they seek to discover the artist within, whether you have professional aspirations or want to find a new hobby. Alongside art classes for kids, teens and adults, Artable runs one and two day workshops for children and adults alike. The next workshop, Pastel Portraits with David Wells is on 28 and 29 October 2016. Further information can be found here.

The Craft Parlour

1059 Gold Coast Highway, Palm Beach

The Craft Parlour is a great initiative offering a versatile space to discover crafts of all kinds. In addition to an array of workshops from macramé wall hangings to spoon carving, the Craft Parlour can accommodate hens dos, crafternoons, baby showers and other intimate, craft-based gatherings. Further information about upcoming workshops can be found here.

If you’re after something a little more ad hoc, Small Stall in Palm Beach occasionally run crafty workshops. It’s worth keeping an eye on their Facebook page for information.
